Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a remarkable system of healing using very fine needles inserted into the skin at specific points in the body. Earliest written records date back 2000 years, however earliest archeological evidence dates acupuncture back to as early as 3000 BC or more.

There are over 400 acupuncture points in the body, organized into meridians. Each meridian corresponds to organs in the body, emotions associated with those organs, the muscle pathways along the way, and a whole constellation of associated mind-body interactions! When you receive acupuncture, you are being treated for the whole energy spectrum from body to mind/spirit.

Treatment is based on a holistic diagnosis that takes into account all your symptoms, life circumstances, and how you appear (tired, wired, stressed, at peace, etc.) As a result, many times patients come in looking to fix one problem and discover that other problems can be treated simultaneously, because they are related.

Acupuncture needles are very small and fine, very much thinner than hypodermic syringes. I use only sterile disposable needles. When inserted, one can expect slight sensation, sometimes a little prick like a mosquito bite. Otherwise, the process is essentially pain-free. Needles are left in for about 20 minutes. One very common effect of needles is that they are surprisingly relaxing: many people fall asleep during treatment.

After the needles are removed, I often follow up with a few minutes of either medical massage or relaxation therapy, depending on the condition. After a treatment, it is recommended that you allow the body to rest.

Treatments are by appointment Tuesday through Saturday, including evening and weekend hours. Call, email or text to enquire about availability. First visit appointments include a full health-history and an acupuncture treatment. They can run about 60 minutes / follow-ups about 45-50 minutes. All appointments cost $85. Some insurance companies cover acupuncture services; I prefer patients to pay me directly and get reimbursed by their insurance companies. I will help with submission of claim forms if needed.

It is very hard to say how many treatments will be needed to resolve the condition for which you seek treatment. Usually you will feel better after every session, but depending on the condition and how long you have had it, it can take several treatments to resolve. In addition, healing is an organic process, and though you may feel better after the treatment, it is common that symptoms might return. This is to be expected as each treatment leaves you feeling better and better.

Cancellation must be made no later than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment, or you will be charged full-fee for a missed appointment.

Strict patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
